About Me

My name is Jonna Lynn, I am seventeen and live in the Pacific Northwest. From the time that I was nine years old, I knew I wanted to be a chef. I wanted to study at the Cordon Bleu a culinary institute in Paris and after that open my own restaurant. However, I also am involved in music. Starting in fifth grade, I played flute. In seventh grade I discovered jazz while playing alto sax. I began getting more and more involved in music and although cooking was still a hobby of mine, music became my passion. Performing at Carnegie Hall this past April with my high school's Wind Ensemble I realized that becoming a chef would never be as fulfilling as music. That is when I learned that it is okay to change your mind.

Music has become a place of comfort and inspiration for me. It has slowly taken over my life and I have become Band Council President as well as a Section Leader in my Wind Ensemble. To me, there is a place for everyone in music. Music can express feelings that there are no words for. Music can move people and develop memories in an instant. The study of music has taught me so much about myself and given me so many skills. Outside of the technical music skills, studying music has taught me dedication, commitment, creativity and above all it has given me the confidence to be myself.

Another passion of mine is literature. Reading gives me a place to escape. Through books I have seen the world and beyond. I have learned about people, about humanity and ultimately about myself. Not only reading, but also writing. Being able to communicate and craft through words gives me a power like nothing else. The power of word has taught me to be intentional about what you say and how you say it.

Even though I am grateful for my skills and passions, I am blessed to have the support system to lift me up when I fall down. I have an amazing family to support me, friends that love me and a God who has a plan for me. I draw strength from my roots being raised in a Christian household. My favorite verse  is Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" and I know in my heart that this is the truth. This gives me the ambition to live up to my potential and get the most out of every opportunity available to me.
